Why Highland
The parks are the same. The journey through them is not.
Every operator can drive through the same gates. What changes the value of the journey is the guide beside you, the position of the camp, the hours protected for a sighting, and the calm confidence that somebody on the ground has the whole route in hand.
Highland has worked from Moshi, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, since 2001. Our own guides and operations team design the journey, meet you on arrival and remain reachable while you travel. Before the trip, that should feel like confidence. In the wild, it should become wonder.

Twenty-five years on the same routes, several hundred guests, and a ground operation we run ourselves rather than hand to a subcontractor.
Timing
The most important decision is not where. It is when.
The same park is a different place in February than it is in August, and so is the price. Choose a month and we will tell you plainly what you would find.

Rates are indicative and move with camp choice, vehicle configuration and how far ahead you book. Wildlife movement is a pattern, not a timetable — if a month is wrong for what you want, we will say so.

A tented camp an hour from the herds beats a grand lodge three hours away. We place you where the wildlife is that month, then make the rooms as good as the location allows.
Guides who have worked the same parks for years
Over twenty on staff, most with us for a decade or more. We match a guide to your party — a family with young children needs someone different from two photographers.

A conversation, then a written itinerary
A call if you want one. Then a costed day-by-day plan with named camps, usually within 48 hours of us understanding the brief.

Revise until it is right
Most itineraries change two or three times. Nothing is booked and no deposit is taken until you are happy with the plan.

We take it from there
Permits, flights, camps and transfers handled by our own team. Full documents before you fly, and a Tanzanian number that answers while you are here.

The questions we answer most often
Highland’s public planning prices use three journey collections: Signature Private journeys generally begin around $5,000–$9,000 per guest, Private Reserve journeys around $9,000–$16,000+, and Grand Journeys around $14,000–$20,000+. Specific pages show an indicative “From” price or “Price on request,” based on two adults sharing. The final figure is confirmed only after dates, camp availability, seasonal supplements, government fees and aviation have been costed.
You are welcome to use an advisor, and many of our guests do — we work with them constantly. The difference is that a foreign agency subcontracts the ground operation to a company like ours and adds a margin. Booking here removes that layer and puts you in direct contact with the team that runs the safari.
Yes, with the ordinary caveats of any long-haul travel. Our vehicles are serviced in our own workshop, our guides are first-aid trained, and we carry satellite communication where mobile coverage fails. We run a great many family journeys and will be direct with you about which camps and which parks suit the age of your children.
For July through September in the northern Serengeti, twelve to eighteen months — the good camps genuinely do sell out that far out. For February calving, around nine months. For the green months of April, May and November, three to four is usually enough. If you are inside those windows we will tell you honestly what is still available rather than quietly downgrading you.
International flights, visas, travel and medical insurance, gratuities, personal purchases and optional activities not named in the confirmed itinerary. Domestic aviation is included only where the written journey says it is. Festive supplements, excess baggage and private charters are quoted separately when they apply.
